Long Term Care - Environmental Services

Maintenance, Housekeeping and Laundry

Maintenance

Maintenance will provide assistance to arrange the resident’s furniture, hang pictures, hook up cable for TV no bigger than 32”, check electrical equipment for safety and be available to make any reported repairs. We ask that you refrain from using nails or screws or any wall hangers in the room. Maintenance will hang pictures or items for you. To request assistance, please discuss issuing a maintenance requisition with nursing staff. Before you purchase or bring in any personal electrical device please check with the Maintenance staff to have a safety check. Any electrical item deemed unsafe by maintenance staff will not be permitted to be used. Please note that glider rocking chairs are not permitted in the Homes as they pose a hazard to the resident.

Housekeeping and Laundry Services

The housekeeping staff regularly clean the resident rooms. There is a schedule in place for general cleaning of all resident rooms. Additional items that are brought into the Homes (i.e. curio cabinets, accent tables, upholstered furniture, etc.) are the responsibility of the resident/family to clean. Please check with the Environmental Services Manager in regard to the suitability and availability of extra furniture in the resident room. For infection control measures, we may ask you to remove items that have not been kept clean.

Laundry Services

The Homes supply all bed linen, bedspreads, drapes, towels, and facecloths. Residents are encouraged to bring their own favorite comforter/bedspread/afghan if desired.
Laundry services are provided by the Home at no additional cost to the resident. Clothing is washed in our commercial system, so please make sure clothing is washable. All clothing will be marked in the Home by staff with hot seal labels affixed to the clothing of the resident upon admission to the Home. All new items of clothing brought into the Home must be given to the Nursing staff to allow the laundry department to label the items with the resident’s name and/or laundry number. If you notice that you are missing an item, laundry staff will try to locate it for you. A request can be made in person to identify a lost article by looking through the “Lost and Found” articles in the laundry service area. Periodically, we display clothing lost in the laundry system that has no identification for owners to claim. It will be clearly communicated that the “lost and found” is taking place. Any leftover items will be disposed of after this notice.

Each wing has a residential size washer and dryer that the resident/family is welcome to use if they prefer to do personal laundry instead of using the main system, at no additional cost. Staff do not provide personal laundry assistance. Please ask staff to unlock the service room to access these appliances.
